Sheikh Sabri: Al-Aqsa closure is a bizarre violation of sanctity

Sheikh Ikrema Sabri condemned the ongoing closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque as a violation of religious freedom.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Sheikh Ikrema Sabri, the preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque, condemned the continued closure of the holy site by Israeli occupation forces, calling it a blatant violation of its sanctity and a “bizarre and abnormal act.”

In a statement on Tuesday, Sheikh Sabri said the closure deprives thousands of Muslims of their right to pray at Al-Aqsa, while settlers are allowed to storm and desecrate the site. He described this as a clear breach of religious freedom and international law.

He noted that these restrictions began with the war on Gaza and have continued, with Israeli forces besieging Al-Quds and its Old City and preventing Palestinians from entering.

Sabri emphasized that no other country in the world closes places of worship, accusing the occupation of seeking to assert control over Al-Aqsa. He warned that such actions do not grant any legitimacy or rights to the occupiers.

He further stated that Israel is attempting to impose a new reality at Al-Aqsa by claiming sovereignty, stripping the Islamic Waqf of its authority, and tightening control over mosque guards.

Sheikh Sabri warned of the serious threats facing Al-Aqsa and urged Muslims to confront them by attending the mosque and breaking the imposed siege.

He called on Muslims and Jerusalemites to continue visiting Al-Aqsa despite restrictions, to protect and defend it from Israeli plans.

Israeli authorities have continued to close the mosque, forcibly removing worshippers and preventing access to its courtyards.

On Sunday morning, the mosque was once again fully closed, just days after a partial reopening that allowed only 500 worshippers following its initial closure on June 13, which coincided with the Israeli assault on Iran.

Israeli police also tightened restrictions on Palestinians entering the Old City, limiting access to residents only and forcing the closure of many shops.
